The Energy Of A Clean Space: Why Your Environment Matters

"Your home is an extension of your energy field"

Last week, I talked about how “the energy you radiate is the energy you attract.” But how can we actively protect and even elevate our energy? One powerful, yet often overlooked, factor is our environment. The spaces we live and work in have a profound impact on our energy field, and the magic of a clean, organized space is something that deserves far more attention.

I recently came across an Instagram post that said, “Your home is an extension of your energy field,” and I couldn’t agree more. The way we care for our space reflects how we care for ourselves. Cleaning your home, rearranging furniture, decluttering old belongings, and refreshing your closet aren’t just chores—they’re powerful acts of self-care. These simple shifts can have a profound impact on your mind, body, and spirit, creating a space that truly supports your well-being. Here’s how:

  • Reduces Stress and Anxiety: Cluttered, disorganized environments can feel overwhelming, often triggering stress and anxiety. On the other hand, a clean and orderly space fosters a sense of calm and control, helping you feel more at ease.

  • Boosts Focus and Productivity: A tidy space minimizes distractions, creating an environment where you can concentrate more effectively. Messy surroundings, filled with visual clutter, disrupt both work and relaxation by pulling your attention in multiple directions.

  • Improves Mood and Positivity: An organized space can spark feelings of accomplishment and positivity. Spaces that are free from clutter and bathed in natural light have been shown to uplift your mood, creating a more joyful and energizing atmosphere.

  • Supports Better Sleep: Cleanliness isn’t just about aesthetics—it directly impacts sleep quality. A clutter-free bedroom reduces mental noise and fosters a serene, calming environment, helping you unwind and enjoy deeper, more restorative sleep. And as I always say, sleep is the foundation of health!

  • Reduces Decision Fatigue: A cluttered environment can complicate daily decisions, like finding items or choosing what to focus on while a clean space simplifies decision-making, freeing up mental energy.

  • Encourages Overall Healthy Habits: maintaining a clean space encourages other healthy habits like cooking at home, waking up in time to workout before work, and going to bed early.

So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, scatter-brained, or unmotivated, try tidying up your space, decluttering your closet, or rearranging your furniture. You might be surprised at how these small, intentional changes can uplift your spirit, clear your mind, and elevate your energy.

For example, I love starting each season by cleaning out my closet—it’s such a refreshing way to clear old energy and make space for something new. My go-to rule is simple: if I haven’t worn it in over a year, it’s time to donate. The only exceptions? Timeless, high-quality capsule pieces from designers that never go out of style (or even grow in value). But that Zara sweater from college you haven’t touched in years? It’s time to say goodbye. Trust me, you won’t miss it.

On a similar note, one of my non-negotiable morning habits is making my bed. It’s the very first thing I do—before brushing my teeth or even heading to the bathroom. Why? Because it sets the tone for the entire day. Within just a few minutes of waking up, you’ve already accomplished something, and that small win can carry you forward with confidence and purpose.

Lastly, automate and schedule the cleaning tasks we all tend to procrastinate, like washing your sheets, scrubbing the bathroom, clearing out the fridge, or washing your makeup brushes. I add these chores to my calendar and set a reminder to tackle them on Sundays. It’s become a ritual that helps me start the week feeling fresh and energized—no second-guessing, no overwhelm, just consistency.

Your environment is a reflection of your energy, and the care you put into your space has a ripple effect on your mind, body, and spirit. By creating a clean, organized, and intentional space, you’re not just tidying up—you’re actively supporting your well-being and welcoming fresh energy into your life. So why not start today? Your future self will thank you.
